Taking a break from flat pictures for a while during my sessions, I was challenged to depict reality – trying to be very fast and understanding the rough shapes of faces, depicting them with faster strokes. It went on for a few months and that’s what motivated me to attend a charcoal drawing course (will do another post).

I did a few examples with portrait busts, using charcoal and a bit of white chalk:

I then moved to a monochromatic painting, challenging myself to finish in a single session. Great learning experience that forced me to see things differently
