After countless hours of drawing self practice I decided to attend a class to better understand the theories behind it. This course was a few weeks long and focused on a specific medium: charcoal.
It’s very messy to use at home but really nice if you have a larger space that is easy to clean after you’re done.
I finally learned about the material origins, differences between willow and compressed charcoal, its softness, and a few techniques to produceĀ chiaroscuro (tone shading), like hatching/x-hatching, stippling etc..
