There is a place I always go to when I pass by Florence, to see one of the masterpieces I love the most: the David by Michelangelo. It is a 5.17-metre statue carved from a single piece of marble. If that doesn’t blow you away, please read again slowly. If that still doesn’t, consider he was 26 years old when he started working on it.
I only had few minutes as the folks at Accademia close way too early – I started drawing and of course couldn’t capture much of it. Knowing I only had few mins I drew really fast, and of course it doesn’t work (see the first image). Then I started measuring proportions and was able to give a glimpse of it.
I will come back more prepared. Sorry Michelangelo.
